I’m as happy eating a fresh, warm stroopwafel in the Netherlands in winter as I am getting Italian gelato on a hot summer’s day. I love travelling in every season, and I know how to make each city come to life any day of the year.

When I was 10, my mom took me on a tour through Europe, and I remember thinking our tour leader had the coolest job ever. That trip sparked something in me. I studied Ecology and Tourism, and years later, my childhood dream turned into reality. I can confirm, it is indeed the coolest job ever!

My Top Tips

  • When to Travel

Definitely see the tulips in the Netherlands in April. It gets sunnier, and all the parks come alive. Visit Italy from June to September to swim in the Mediterranean Sea and enjoy the warm summer weather. And in Vienna, November is the best time to visit the Christmas markets.

  • Local Flavours

Eat a fresh stroopwafel in the Netherlands. Try grilled bratwurst in Germany. Eat Zweifel chips with a local drink, Rivella, in Switzerland. In Italy, I always recommend spaghetti frutti di mare for great seafood and bistecca alla fiorentina, a famous steak dish from Florence. In summer, real Italian gelato is amazing.

  • Insider Advice

Use bank ATMs in Germany and Italy because they usually charge lower commission fees than currency exchange shops. Drink the tap water in Switzerland; it tastes amazing, and try the local chocolate instead of the franchise brands. In Italy, the water from the fountains is fresh and safe to drink.

  • Must-Do Experiences

Visit Jungfraujoch and enjoy a hot chocolate surrounded by the glaciers. Take the speedboat at night along the Grand Canal in Venice. Try traditional herring in Volendam, and raise a toast with a cold Rivella in Switzerland. Take a peaceful walk along the river in Ljubljana. These are the kinds of simple local experiences that really make a trip unforgettable.
